Graphic Design Masterclass
In January and February 2025, NYUAD Design collaborated with the Executive Education office, Mubadala, and Bidayah Media to deliver an intensive four-week Graphic Design Masterclass for 23 Emirati early-career designers. The program was part of the Creative Industries Bridging Program, an initiative designed to provide recent UAE National graduates with real-world experience and the opportunity to refine their professional skills in the creative sector.
Led by Professor Goffredo Puccetti, the bespoke masterclass was structured to balance design theory, hands-on practice, and professional application, offering participants a comprehensive introduction to graphic design within the UAE context. Instructors Erin Collins and Stefania Avramidi conducted specialized workshops: Erin focused on Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, while Stefania led an animation workshop.
The masterclass curriculum emphasized core principles of graphic design, including visual communication and storytelling, typography and layout design, design history, with a focus on contemporary Arabic graphic design, branding and identity development, and digital tools and production techniques.

Participants worked on real-world design briefs, engaging with industry professionals and mentors to develop creative solutions while adhering to existing design guidelines. The program was designed to prepare participants for careers in the UAE’s growing creative industries, equipping them with the technical proficiency, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving abilities necessary to excel in professional design roles. Each student expanded their portfolio of projects and gained a deeper understanding of the role of design in shaping contemporary visual culture.
By fostering a rigorous yet supportive learning environment, NYUAD Design continues its commitment to cultivating the next generation of designers in the UAE and beyond. This masterclass marks an important step in strengthening connections between academia and industry, ensuring that emerging Emirati talent is well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the region’s creative landscape.
