NYUAD explores the "Al Wissam Script" with Grafica Magazine

NYUAD.DESIGN is excited to once again be prominently featured in Grafica Magazine, the leading Italian graphic design publication edited by Stefano Cipolla.

Following a comprehensive profile dedicated to the teaching of design at NYUAD in the magazine's inaugural issue, the latest edition features an extensive interview with world-renowned calligrapher, and longtime friend of NYUAD, Wissam Shawkat. Conducted by NYUAD Design faculty member Goffredo Puccetti, the interview is centered around the release and ongoing evolution of Shawkat’s eponymous script, highlighting the striking novelty, experimental nature, and cultural relevance of his practice. Recently, Puccetti contributed an essay for the catalog of Shawkat's latest solo exhibition, "Al Wissam Script," which was hosted at the Tashkeel Studio and Gallery in Dubai.

Our design students also had the chance to welcome Shawkat as a guest lecturer in the Yes Logo course, Spring 2026, and we look forward to strenghtening future collaborations. In the meantime, copies of Grafica Magazine are available upon request for our community to review.
